Honouring Our People, Celebrating Our Purpose

Celebrating People and Purpose for Mental Health Week

This October, as Queensland marks Mental Health Week, we take the opportunity to reflect on what matters most. At Supported Care, this week is not just about awareness. It is about the people who show up every day to listen, to care, and to make a difference in the lives of others.

We are proud to share that two members of our team, Toni Halloran and Michael Guillergan, have been named finalists in the Queensland Mental Health Achievement Awards. Their recognition speaks to the dedication, empathy, and strength they bring to their work. They support people through difficult circumstances, and they do so with patience, respect, and quiet leadership.

Toni and Michael have never asked for praise, but the impact of their work is felt deeply by those around them. This nomination is not only a personal achievement, it is a reflection of the values we carry across all of Supported Care.

Creative Expression Workshop at Caloundra House

To honour Mental Health Week in a way that reflects our culture, Caloundra House will host a Creative Expression Workshop on 10 October 2025. The session is designed for residents in our Level 3 Supported Living program and offers a more thoughtful alternative to the usual social gathering.

Residents will be invited to join small groups based on shared interests. These include art, music, gardening, food, and fashion. Using simple materials such as magazines, paper, and markers, each group will explore their ideas around wellbeing and self-expression through hands-on creative activities.

The session will conclude with an informal display of the residents’ creations, followed by light refreshments. This is more than a craft session. It is a chance for residents to connect, reflect, and express their own stories in a safe and supported space.

Looking Ahead

Mental Health Week is a reminder that wellbeing is built in the small things. It is built in the way we treat each other, in the spaces we create, and in the stories we take time to listen to.

From the recognition of Toni and Michael, to the creativity being shared at Caloundra House, we are proud of what our community continues to build. Thank you to every team member, every resident, and every supporter who makes this work possible.

We look forward to sharing more throughout the week, and continuing the conversation long after it ends.
